Bill to pay back school shifts introduced in House

garofalo pat rOn Thursday, GOP legislative leaders announced a proposal that would start to repay the 2010 and 2011 school shift payments using the state’s current budget reserve funds.

The legislation (HF 2083) would return the state to the 70/30-payment rate to school districts that was scheduled to occur in 2011. 

Carver County, Minneapolis Public Schools Win National Transparency Awards

Picture 1Two government entities earned recognition as some of the most transparent websites in the nation.

On Thursday, the Sunshine Review, a national nonprofit organization focused on government transparency, released the winners of the third annual Sunny Awards. The award was given to 214 government entities, including Carver County and Minneapolis Public Schools.

Zellers responds to Dayton veto on firearms bill

zellers kurt rEarlier today, House Speaker Kurt Zellers (R-Maple Grove) responded to Governor Mark Dayton’s veto of the Defense of Dwelling and Person Act.

Yesterday, Governor Mark. Dayton vetoed the so-called “castle doctrine” bill that would have extended rights for private citizens when using deadly force. It also would have changed the legal definition of self-defense to include "use of a firearm from" vehicles and other personal domains.
